Unlocking Potential Through Technology

In an era where technology shapes our lives and economy, ensuring that Indigenous youth in Canada have the tools, skills, and opportunities to thrive is more crucial than ever. The Indigenous Friends Association (IFA) is at the forefront of this mission, championing the IndigiTECH Mentorship Program to bridge the gap between Indigenous talent and the digital world.
Challenges and Opportunities

Indigenous youth face unique challenges in accessing the digital labor market, including economic barriers, limited access to broadband internet, and a lack of technological tools within educational programs. Despite these obstacles, there is a silver lining: Indigenous professionals, especially women in tech roles like programming, often achieve high earnings, demonstrating that with the right support, Indigenous youth can excel in tech-driven careers.

The IndigiTECH Mentorship Program

Designed for Indigenous, Inuit, and Métis individuals aged 16 and older residing in Canada, the IndigiTECH Program is a comprehensive 28-week, full-time remote learning initiative. It focuses on upskilling participants in tech through immersive courses, networking opportunities, and a 12-week paid internship with leading firms. This hands-on experience is invaluable, providing real-world exposure and enhancing employability in the tech sector.

While our March cohort is currently full, future sessions are scheduled for July 2024, October 2024, and April 2025. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend an info session—a crucial step in the registration process—held two months prior to each program's start. To stay informed and express your interest in upcoming cohorts. Keep an eye on your inbox (and junk mail) for updates on program happenings and events.

A Call to Action

This initiative is more than just a program; it's a step towards digital economic empowerment for Indigenous youths, aligning with IFA's mission to foster opportunities and advance digital pathways rooted in Indigenous knowledge. By breaking down barriers and creating inclusive pathways, we can ensure a diverse, equitable tech industry that not only drives innovation but also respects and incorporates Indigenous worldviews.
